Punjab Floods: Over 1,300 Villages Submerged, Gurdaspur Worst Affected

Chandigarh | September 1, 2025 — Punjab continues to battle devastating floods, with 1,312 villages across multiple districts inundated, according to revenue, rehabilitation and disaster management minister Hardeep Singh Mundian.

The Gurdaspur district has been hit the hardest, with 324 villages under water, followed by Kapurthala (123 villages). Other severely impacted districts include Ferozepur (107 villages), Amritsar (93), Fazilka (92), Hoshiarpur (86), Pathankot (81), and Muktsar Sahib (74). Smaller but significant damage has also been reported in Barnala, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mansa, and Tarn Taran.

Rescue and Relief Efforts

So far, 14,936 people have been evacuated from high-risk zones. Gurdaspur alone accounted for 5,456 rescues, while 3,265 were saved in Ferozepur, 1,700 in Amritsar, and 1,139 in Pathankot.

The state has set up 122 relief camps, currently sheltering 6,582 displaced residents. Minister Mundian lauded the relentless work of the NDRF, SDRF, army, Punjab Police, and NGOs, who are jointly carrying out rescue and relief operations.


“The entire state machinery is working round-the-clock to safeguard lives and property,” Mundian said, urging citizens to remain vigilant and extend full cooperation.
